It was business as usual for the Estill County Fiscal Court Monday night as the judge executive and magistrates worked their way through a lengthy agenda.
Estill County Judge Executive Wallace Taylor began the meeting with a brief judges address in which he told the magistrates he was continuing preliminary work on the budget for next fiscal year.
“It’s going to be an interesting budget,” he said. “It’s going to be interesting to see what happens. I’m still trying to find the tree that’s growing money.”
Estill County Fire Chief Derrick Muncie returned to this meeting with answers to some questions the court had about his report last month.
Muncie told the court he had calculated some statistics the court was curious about. He said of the 383 runs the department did last year, 105 were on the weekend and 263 were within five miles of the station.
In new business, Taylor made two proclamations. First Taylor read a proclamation deeming April as Child Abuse Awareness Month in Estill County. He thanked Mallory Brazil for helping obtain a grant to purchase the windmills planted on the courthouse lawn. He said these pinwheels serve as a reminder of the need to band together to prevent child abuse. He also declared the week of April 21-27 Volunteer Recognition Week in Estill County.
The court also agreed to enter into an agreement with the Montgomery County Jail to house Estill’s overflow of inmates for $35 a day.
Another agreement was entered into making Estill County part of a multi-county recreational board. This board will work to establish an RV park in the Patsy area.
Other counties involved are Powell, Wolfe and Lee.
