Alcohol and Beverage Control Officer Brad Smith confirmed that two package liquor licenses have been granted in the city of Irvine.
Monty’s of Estill County, LLC, owned by Monty Brock, has received a license, as well as Mega-Liquor, LLC, owned by Wesley Morgan.
James D. Johnson, Sr., was notified that there is not another position available at this time.
Both Monty’s and Mega-Liquor are set to begin construction on new facilities at the beginning of next month.
Smith said Mega-Liquor, at the former site of Don’s Used Cars, will build a 7,000 square foot store and employ six to ten employees.
Monty’s is building a facility larger than the former Fill-Zone business.  Smith said he expects it will employ about the same number of people as Mega-Liquor.
Smith said there has been some talk of a few local restaurants applying to sell liquor by the drink, but no applications have been returned yet.
