After months of campaigning by those seeking public office, polling places will open around the county on Tuesday, November 4, at 6 a.m. Voters will decide who will fill several important county offices as well as major regional and state ones.
Some citizens will also decide whether or not to consolidate or “merge” the governments of the City of Irvine and the City of Ravenna into one city to be known as the City of Irvine.
Locally, all precincts will vote on the County Judge-executive race, with Wallace Taylor, Republican vying against Jim Thacker, the Democratic candidate.
Incumbent County Attorney Rodney G. Davis, a Republican, is running against Jason “J.D.” Riley, an Independent candidate.
Candidates for Property Valuation Administrator Jeff Hix and County Clerk Sherry L. Fox are running unopposed.
The local sheriff’s office will be filled by either Democratic incumbent Gary L. Freeman, or Ravenna Police Chief Ken White, the Republican Candidate.
Republican Beverly “Bo,” Morris is again seeking the office of Jailer. His opponent is Democrat Larry Stewart.
Tony Murphy, Republican candidate, is the lone candidate for County Coroner.
Justin M. Rogers, Democrat, is the only candidate for County Surveyor.
All precincts will also vote on for the Judge of the Court of Appeals, 3rd Appellate District, 1st Division. The non-partisan candidates are Michael O. Caperton and Debra Hembree Lambert.
James H. Lambert and Paul F. Henderson are the candidates for the Judge of the Court of Appeals, 3rd Appellate District, 2nd Division.
For Circuit Judge, in the 23rd Judicial Circuit, Michael Dean and Heather Combs are the candidates.
Incumbent William “Bo” Leach is the sole candidate for 23rd Judicial District Judge.
In the 1st Magisterial District, including the Courthouse, Schoolhouse, West Lawn, Estill Springs, Ravenna and West Irvine precincts, Gerald Rader is running unopposed for Magistrate. Ricky Williams, Democrat, is running unopposed for Constable in the 1st District.
In the 2nd Magisterial District, which includes the White Oak, Millers Creek, Cow Creek, Forks, and Barnes Mountain precincts, Gerry Flannery is running unopposed as the Republican Candidate for Magistrate. For Constable in District 2, Paul “JP” Barnes is the Republican Candidate, and Jerry Goosey is the Democrat Candidate.
The 3rd Magisterial District includes the precincts of Cedar Grove, Red Lick, South Irvine and Drowning Creek. Incumbent Darrell W. Johnson, a Democrat, is competing against Melvin D. Fields, a Republican, for Magistrate. For Constable, Junior Spicer, a Republican, faces Democrat Floyd Edmonson.
For Mayor of the City of Irvine, W.J. Noland, Republican candidate, is running against James E. “Jim” Walters, an Independent candidate.
Residents of the Courthouse, Schoolhouse, West Lawn and Estill Springs precincts will vote for six of the following candidates for Irvine City Council as well as the Irvine mayor’s race: Glenwood “Woody” Tipton (Republican), Tommy Jo “Tobo” Bryant (Republican), Nelle B. Williams (Republican), William Harold Friend (Republican), Billy Dean Arthur (Republican), Tim Burkhart (Republican), Janice H. Bush (Democrat), and Margaret Dudley Gross (Democrat).
In the Ravenna Precinct, voters will decide between current Mayor Estine C. Tipton, or current councilman William C. Van Cleve for the office of Mayor. (The Ravenna offices are non-partisan.)
For Ravenna City Council, citizens of the Ravenna Precinct will vote for up to six of the following candidates: Beverly Thompson, Amy Crowe, M. Sharon Snowden, Terry Johnson, Betty Wells Hisle, and Tina Barnes Johnson.
There are two candidates for school board in the 3rd Educational District. They are L.W. Beckley and Charlie Bill Muncy. Voters from the West Lawn, Ravenna, Millers Creek, and Cow Creek precincts will decide that race.
In the 5th Educational District, members of the Schoolhouse, West Irvine, and Drowning Creek precincts will decide between Jonathan M. Bicknell, Thomas G. Tucker, and Paul D. “Bird” Arvin to represent them on the school board.
Statewide, one of the most hotly contested races in the country is that for United States Senator. Long time Republican incumbent Mitch McConnell is being challenged by Democratic candidate Alison Lundergun Grimes and Libertarian candidate David M. Patterson.
United States Representative in Congress incumbent Andy Barr, a Republican, is facing Democratic challenger Elisabeth Jensen in the Sixth Congressional District.
Republican incumbent Gary “Toby” Herald, State Representative from the 91st Representative District, is running against Cluster Howard, a Democrat.
