Police Beats for Nov. 15, 2012

Estill County Sheriff’s Office

11/5 Sallie Spry, 32, of Walton, was arrested by Deputy Sheriff Karl Rifenbark and charged with theft by unlawful taking, shoplifting. Spry took $13.49 of items from the Dollar General Store on Richmond Road.
11/6 Thomas McDowell, 34, of Elmer Richardson Road, was arrested by Russell “Doc” Morris and charged with first-degree promoting contraband. Deputy Jailer Rick Goosey reported finding five Suboxone strips in McDowell’s shoe while he was an inmate at the Estill County Jail.
11/8 Betty Moore, 30, of Rice Station Road, was arrested by Deputy Randy Farthing and charged with menacing and resisting arrest. While on a home visit with Social Services, Farthing witnessed Moore becoming abusive toward the social worker. When he went to arrested Moore, she pulled away and pulled her hands from the cuffs.
11/8 William VanWinkle, 35, of Knob Lick, was arrested by Farthing and charged with fourth-degree domestic violence. Police responded to the domestic in progress and made contact with the victim who said VanWinkle wouldn’t let her leave. While the officer was filling out paperwork VanWinkle raised his hand at the victim and Farthing witnessed the victim’s head move backward. She said VanWinkle hit her. There were no marks left.
11/9 Marcum Johnson, 28, of Independence, was arrested by Sheriff Gary Freeman on an Estill County Circuit Court warrant for fraudulent use of a credit card.
11/10 Matthew Townsend, 31, of Riddell-Clem Road, was arrested by Morris and charged with alcohol intoxication in a public place. Morris was dispatched to Riddell-Clem Road in reference to a man walking down the roadway. According to the uniform citation, Townsend had blood shot eyes, slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet. Townsend said he had several beers.
11/10 Millard McKinney, 56, of St. Timothy Road, was arrested by Morris and charged with third-degree burglary. According to the citation, McKinney was in a building belonging to Anthony McKinney and removed items. The items were recovered and returned.


Irvine Police Department

11/7 Bradley Harkins, 33, of Broadway in Irvine, was arrested by IPD Officer Kenny Brandenburg on an Estill County District Court warrant for theft by unlawful taking. According to the warrant, IPD Chief Brad Smith reported that on Oct. 22 Harkins stole eight aluminum radiators and condensers from Arthur’s Body Shop. Harkins sold the stolen items to Charlie Patrick on Winchester Road. The estimated total value is $50.
11/10 Jeremiah Vaught, 25, of Hood Avenue, was arrested by Smith and charged with fourth-degree assault, domestic violence with minor injury. The uniform citation states that Vaught shoved his live-in girlfriend onto the floor while he was intoxicated. The victim said he grabbed her arms and kicked her. There were visible marks and bruises on the victim from the altercation.
11/12 Billy Gross, 33, of Rose Street, was arrested by Brandenburg and charged with alcohol intoxication in a public place, second offense. Brandenburg responded to the alley located behind 610 Broadway where Gross was reportedly intoxicated and trying to enter the residence. Gross was unsteady on his feet, had slurred speech and admitted to drinking approximately 10 beers. He was lodged at the Estill County Jail.
