Dot's-beauty-shop2When four gals put their heads together and decide they want to be in business for themselves, they sometimes get together and open a beauty shop.
Or, they reopen the shop on 235 Broadway which was known as Dot’s Beauty Shop for many years, and they keep the original name.
Angie Clowers is the official owner of the business, and she’s also the resident nail tech.  She worked at Pizza Hut, “on and off for 20 years” before her sister, Carol, convinced her to give beauty school a try.
Carol, also her sister-in-law (the two married brothers) is a hair stylist.  She previously worked as an apartment manager.
The shop on Broadway opened on Oct. 24.  Many will remember the days when it was operated by Dorotha Newton and, in later years, her granddaughter Tonya Abshear.
Joining the Clowers sisters at the shop are Natasha Sewell and Becky Wise.
Dot’s Beauty Shop is open at 9 a.m. every day except Sunday, and one or the other of the cosmetologists is usually available to stay late.  Drop-ins are welcome.
Their phone number is 723-3722.  Former patrons of Dot’s Beauty Shop may remember the number is the one the shop had before.  The original vintage rotary-dial phone still hangs on the wall—and they still use it.
“That old phone is our conversation piece,” Angie said.  “A lot of people don’t know how to use that kind anymore.”
The beauty shop offers a variety of services, including haircuts, color, perms, waxing and acrylic nails.
For the month of November, they’re offering some specials: haircuts for $6, cut, wash and style for $12, manicures for $12, pedicures for $20 and free nail art on acrylic nails.
