The Estill County Board of Education, including two newly elected members met for the first time in 2013 in a specially called meeting.
The board is currently made up of former Vice-Chairperson Patty Hood, Jon Bicknell, Charlie Bill Muncy, Amy Thomas and Robbie Starling. Thomas and Starling were elected to their positions on the board during the November 2012 election.
Thomas was elected over incumbent Jami Stevenson Price to serve as the member from the 4th Educational District.
Robbie Starling was elected to replace Rick Napier for the 1st Educational District, who retired from the board in November.
The purpose of the special meeting was to elect a chairperson and vice-chairperson to serve for 2013.
Hood nominated Starling for chairperson and Muncie nominated Hood for the post. Hood has previously served as chairperson. Bicknell voted for Starling with all other members voting for Hood, electing her as the chairperson.
For the position of vice-chair, Hood nominated Robbie Starling with all other members voting in favor of Starling for the post.
The board also voted to schedule monthly meetings for the third Thursday of each month.
In other business the board:
•Approved payment of bills.
•Went into closed session to discuss personnel issues.
