No interim hired for now

No action was taken to hire an interim superintendent when the school board met in special session on Thursday, December 4.
However, that does not mean that an interim will not be hired at all but that one could be hired at a later date.
A consultant with the Kentucky School Board Association, Tim Eaton, addressed the board about the services the KSBA can provide to the local district during the process of hiring a new long-term superintendent.
He explained that KSBA guides the process but does not make the selection.
A screening committee must be formed consisting of two teachers that are elected by teachers within the district; a board of education member that is appointed by the board chairman, a principal, elected by the principals in the district; a parent that is elected by the presidents of the parent-teacher organizations of the schools within the district; and a classified employee, that is elected by the classified employees in the district.
To begin the nomination process, Eaton said, there will be a planning meeting between the board of education and the screening committee to discuss the qualities desired in a superintendent.  He noted that it is important to “get the right fit.”
He said a notice advertising the position would subsequently be sent out statewide-or beyond-if the board chooses. The opening must be advertised for 30 days at least, although some districts choose to do so for 60 days.
The screening committee eventually narrows the pool applicants down to a designated number, then presents them to the board, which has the option of asking for more candidates.
Eaton recommended that the board wait to have the planning meeting until the new board member assumes his seat.
The board ultimately made the decision to hire KSBA to help with the selection process.  Board Chair Patty Hood said having been through the process before, that KSBA  ‚Äúleads us through the entire process.‚Äù
Starling, who has also been involved with hiring a superintendent before, said it “makes the whole process a lot cleaner.”
In other business, the school board approved an out of state trip request for the high school cheerleaders to participate in a competition in Tennessee.
They also approved the purchase of two tracts of land in front of South Irvine Elementary for the amount of $20,000.
The local planning committee’s request for a minor adjustment in the District Facilities Plan was approved, making the bleacher replacement project at the high school one of high priority.
