Kristen Wilson, pictured with her husband and daughter, recently started her own photgraphy business.
Kristen Wilson became passionate about taking pictures when her daughter was born 11 years ago.
“I wanted to capture every moment of her life,” she said. “I would take pictures of her fingers and toes against mine, just so we could remember just how small she was.”
A few years ago, Kristen decided to return to college to finish certification requirements to teach Family and Consumer Sciences.
“I had gone three or four semesters right out of high school–then I got married and had a baby,” she laughed.
Last summer she graduated, but although Kristen said she “loves the subject and the classroom,” she has been unable to land a job close to home.
With her daughter settled in a local school, it’s not really an option to move right now, so Kristen has been working to turn her photography hobby into a business.
“I just love taking pictures,” she said. “There’s a quote on my website by Eudora Welty which says, ‘A good snapshot stops a moment from running away.’
“I think that’s very true.”
Kristen does family shoots, kid and senior portraits, group shots and pretty much anything her customers ask for.
“I come to my clients or will meet them if they have a ‘special spot’ they prefer,” she said.
“My prices are not very high,” she said. “I want to make this as affordable for as many people as I can.
“I have lots of good deals right now.”
She likes to custom-design packages to meet the needs of the customer. “I ask them what they want out of the experience, then we go from there. We can do as much or as little as they want.”
Kristen is the daughter of Wendell Brandenburg, co-owner of Stop and Shop, and Barbara Brandenburg, a teacher at Estill Springs Elementary.
Her husband is Bryan Wilson and their daughter Kaitlyn attends Estill Springs Elementary.
